This course gives you a chance to learn the basics of blockchain and be part of the global blockchain narrative, innovation, and adoption. In this course, you will learn what is blockchain, you will also learn about the bitcoin protocol – blockchain’s first application, and you will learn and explore some of the common applications of blockchain across industries like finance, supply chain, governance among many others.

The first section of this course will be focused on understanding Blockchain technology. We'll explore different types of databases and understand how blockchains are different from typical centralised databases. We'll also explore how Blockchain works particularly how transactions are vetted and approved before being added to the blockchain ledger (this is the standard mining process).

In the second section, we'll look deeper into the Bitcoin protocol as we seek to understand the consensus algorithms that make Blockchains extremely secure. Here we'll focus on understanding the basics of the proof of work consensus algorithm pioneered by the Bitcoin protocol.

In the final sections, we'll focus on use cases of Blockchain. Here are the key industries to be covered in the course:
